Ocean Crusaders Foundation
Founded in 2010 by Ian Thomson after witnessing turtles killed by ocean debris, Ocean Crusaders was born from a determination to turn outrage into action. Following a record-breaking circumnavigation of Australia, Ian created the Foundation to remove marine pollution, protect vulnerable wildlife, and raise awareness among the people who use the ocean as their playground. Today Ocean Crusaders conducts targeted clean-ups of remote islands across the Great Barrier Reef, removing debris from isolated shorelines, documenting pollution hotspots, and delivering hands-on conservation training. The Foundation also brings its message to sailors and the broader community through a successful racing program and sports-marketing platform.
The Big Blue Ocean Foundation supports Ocean Crusaders’ clean-up flotillas, empowering the cruising community to take direct action on remote reef islands and share practical skills for long-term stewardship. To learn more about their work, visit their website below.
