Great Barrier Reef Legacy
Great Barrier Reef Legacy was created to address the urgent need to secure the long-term survival of the Great Barrier Reef and coral reefs world-wide. Their Forever Reef Project aims to preserve the genetic biodiversity of all coral species across the world, starting with the Great Barrier Reef. As part of this project, they will collect, catalogue, and store living fragments and genetic samples of coral species in a state-of-the-art holding facility, before they are lost to us and future generations. This repository of live fragments and genetic material can be used to aid in global reef research and restoration efforts.
The Big Blue Ocean Foundation supports Great Barrier Reef Legacy’s Forever Reef Project, bolstering their efforts to preserve coral species forever. To learn more about the important work they are doing, visit their website below.
