Australian Seabird and Turtle Rescue
Australian Seabird and Turtle Rescue (ASTR) is a community-based, not-for-profit, organisation that rescues and rehabilitates vulnerable seabirds and marine reptiles. Since 1992, their dedicated volunteers have rescued stranded animals throughout northern NSW, 365 days a year. ASTR also care for sick and injured animals, and rehabilitates them for release back into the wild. Over the past decade, they have rescued more than 5,500 animals.
Community engagement is also a key aspect of their work, which includes education tours at their facility, as well as other outreach programs. Through this engagement, they aim to enhance public understanding of the pressures the animals face, and educate on broad issues of environmental stewardship, conservation and wildlife rescue.
The Big Blue Ocean Foundation supports ASTR by funding an upgrade to their turtle hospital facilities. To learn more about the important work they are doing, visit their website below.
